The Fentanyl Urine Test Cassette is an immunoassay based on the principle of competitive binding. Drugs that may be present in the urine compete with the drug conjugate for binding sites on the antibody.

During testing, a urine sample migrates upward through capillary action. Fentanyl, if present in the urine at a concentration below 1 ng/mL, will not saturate the antibody-coated particle binding sites in the test device.

The antibody-coated particles are then captured by the immobilized FYL conjugate, and a visible colored line appears in the test line region.
No colored line will form in the test line region when the FYL level exceeds 1 ng/mL, because it will saturate all binding sites of the anti-FYL antibodies.

A drug-positive urine specimen will not generate a colored line in the test line region, whereas a drug-negative specimen or one with a drug concentration below the cutoff will produce a line in the test line region.
As a procedural control, a colored line will always appear in the control line region (C), indicating that the proper volume of specimen has been added and membrane wicking has occurred.
